I wouldn't recommend freeing the wild horses until you have bravery tested and rated them

I'd FR the bulk of your barn, and buy some show geldings, PPP+ mares, (who can also show for you but will have decent foals) and hold off on a lot of breeding for a game year.

I heard keep or sale/Free Range questions go in sales chat regardless

Okay. Most of your barn is not useful to you unless you are planning to breed for color only. You have a bunch of unrated mares, so even if the studs are good, the mares might be sub par or barely average across the board.

not sell i meant free range sorry yall

I don't think that counts as sales chat, more as a "what should I do?"

Fancy, do you want blunt honest help, or do you just want to sort of dabble and find your own way?

This is very helpful advice thank you I'll look into that I did pay this current barn to transport him so I'll see if maybe some other barns would this current barn was 600 for 30 miles transport so I'll see what normal pricing is I feel like I'm scared to look into other barns because i don't want them knowing I'm looking to move the barn owner is kind of wack

You don't need a trailer to move. Any barn you find should have one you can use- you may have to pay the owner/trainer/hauler to pick up your horse, but that's perfectly normal and more feasible than buying an entire trailer (and you don't want to move somewhere that doesn't have a trailer in case there's ever an emergency).
This barn is so full of red flags holy cow. Absolutely none of that is normal. I've worked for some shitty barns before and have never seen anything that ridiculous. They sound like the Spirit Airlines of barns.

Wtf that should've been $100 maximum for hauling. That's insane.
You can have a friend look if you're that nervous, and then meet the barn owner once they find an open stall perhaps, so that word doesn't get out that you're moving. But honestly if they're this awful, other barns probably don't interact with them much.

Move ASAP. Don't let them know. Just take your horse and go one day (pretend you & horse are going to a friend for a week). Just pay what you owe the day before, without telling them that you are leaving for a new barn and ask for a receipt. Or they will charge you extra for some thing or many things because you are leaving.
Then tell them by e-mail that you won't be returning. No explanation. This ensures a written recorded end of contract.
Best of luck, this is common sense, don't let it do your head in.

I'm late to the party, but that hauling price is insane. To put it into perspective, my sister had a horse hauled from Illinois to Georgia (approximately 11 hours) for $700, which was kind of cheap from what I know, but still.
